About

So, what do you want to know about me?   You know I love to write.  What else is there? 🙂
Okay, seriously… Who am I?  Just a normal person who happens to love to write. If I could do it all anonymously, I would.  In fact, I did the first go round.  I wrote under a pen name.  On the off chance I would ever become famous – I didn’t want to be!  I don’t like the limelight.  I don’t like living in a fishbowl.  I especially don’t like thinking I have to look good everywhere I go, just in case someone recognizes me!  I finally decided none of that matters.  If you don’t like me in overalls and a baseball cap, too bad.  If you don’t like my haircut or think I should do something different than what I’m doing, too bad.  I’ll write books that you will hopefully like, and we’ll both let that be enough! 🙂  Fair?

But let’s see what you might want to know.  I spent many years as a Wanderer.  My dream when I graduated from college was to experience the United States.  I grew up in the South.  There are many things I love about it but I wanted to live in other places.  So I did.  I’ve moved 53 times, traveled extensively in 49 of the 50 states, and had more experiences than I will ever be able to recount.  The only state I haven’t been in is Alaska, simply because I refuse to visit such a vast, fabulous place until I have at least a month.  It will happen soon.

Along the way I had glorious adventures.  I’ve canoed through the Everglade Swamps, snorkled in the Florida Keys and windsurfed in the Gulf of Mexico.  I’ve white-water rafted down the New River and Bungee jumped in the Wisconsin Dells.  I’ve visited every National Park (in the off-season when there is more freedom!) and many of the State Parks.  I’ve hiked thousands of miles of mountain trails and biked through Arizona deserts.  I’ve canoed and biked through Upstate New York and Vermont, and polished off as much lobster as possible on the Maine Coast.  And so much more…

I had a glorious time and never thought I would find a place that would hold me until I came to the Pacific Northwest.  I’d been here less than 2 weeks, and I knew I would never leave.  My heart is so at home here with the towering firs, sparkling waters, soaring mountains and rocky beaches.  I love the eagles & whales.  In 5 minutes I can be hiking on 150 miles of trails in the mountains around my home, or gliding across the lake in my rowing shell.  I love it!

Have you figured out I’m kind of an outdoors gal?  If it can be done outdoors, I love it!  Hiking, biking, windsurfing, rock-climbing, roller-blading, snow-shoeing, skiing, rowing, canoeing, softball, tennis… the list could go on and on.  I love to have fun and I love to stretch my body.  This should give you a pretty good idea of what I do in my free time.

When I’m not writing or playing, I’m building Millions For Positive Change – a fabulous organization I founded in 2001 – along with 60 amazing people who poured their lives into creating resources to empower people to make a difference with their lives.  The name has changed along the way, but the purpose has never wavered.

And, yes, I’m married to my best friend of 39 years.  Suess is the light of my life, and I never imagined I could have so much joy in a relationship.  She is also a talented writer and she helps me run Bregdan Publishing.  We met on a ranch in Texas – we’ve never stopped having adventures!

I also have a fabulous dog who owns the rest of my heart.  Even though Bogey is 100+ lbs now I can’t resist sharing his puppy pictures with you.  Is he adorable or what??

And now he’s all grown up, and my very best buddy!
What else?  I love to read, cook, sit for hours in solitude on my mountain, and also hang out with friends.  I love barbeques and block parties.  Basically – I just love LIFE!

I’m so glad you’re part of my world!

  1. I just love the Chronicles. I just finished book 4 and am on a waiting list at the library for the next one. I have two degrees in history, but not much concentration in America’s. I have learned so much about the era of the Civil War from your books. I plan to read them all and I have told many friends about them. At first I was intimidated by the number of pages, but they are so interesting that I usually finish them in 2-3 days. (Housework can wait). Keep them coming, Ginny! I

  2. Thank you for sharing your life with me.
From reading bragdan chronicles I know you’re wonderful Christian. I love the messages in your books. I hope they never end.

  3. I realize it’s been awhile since you shared intimate details about the wonderful life you have made for yourself…sorry for the reason you felt the need to do that. There are some mean Christians out there, I don’t claim they aren’t Christian because that’s between them & God. I would hope most Christians would choose LOVE & NOT judgement.

  4. Thank you so much for not having graphic sex in your novels. I write historical fiction and my publisher told me if I didn’t include at least one scene, no one would like it. So….I didn’t and so many people have said thank you for not putting it in! I also edit other people’s work and begged a writer not to include sex scenes. People wrote and told her they skipped them.

  8. I have read the whole series of books. Your books are far superior than any other books I have read. To begin, I appreciate the research you do before you write. I love to gain knowledge of our history. Second, the story you weave within your facts is so important to me. Each character brings to life the horrors of the Civil war, the outstanding fight to survive, and the amazing drive that the women and men had to bring about changes despite their grieve. While reading your books I found that I was right there between each page. I felt that I knew each character personally. I do appreciate that you did not include explicit sexual behavior in your books. When an author feels the need to include sex in order to sell a book, the book is not good reading. thank you so much!

  9. A friend of mine (female) sent me copies of your books, thinking I would enjoy them. She had a total of 10. I have indeed enjoyed them, and have learned a lot of historical details I didn’t know. While your readers and your leanings are toward females, I see a lot of strong male characters throughout your writings. Good to know you don’t find all of us males to be opinionated Oafs. I have added to her collection by adding books 11-13, and plan to buy more. Keep up the good work. You have a male fan.

  10. Hi Graham,

Thank you so much for taking the time to write! It’s wonderful to hear from one of my male fans. 🙂 Yes, the characters lean toward women, but I also know and respect that there are so many amazing men in the world! I love knowing that my male leadership is growing.

    Blessings,

  11. Hi Ginny. Bregdan Chronicles series are some of the best books I’ve ever read. A joy to read, a story to get lost in and learn SO MUCH from! I wonder if any of your characters, particularly Alice, are based on any real life people?

  13. I just finished reading the latest book in the Bregdan Chronicles and LOVED every moment of the series and can’t wait for the next one! I read the first 3 through the library but that’s all they had so I had to purchase all the rest and now plan to purchase the first 3 so I have the entire collection. I LOVE history so looking up more details on events from the books has expanded my history knowledge! LOVE it! I find myself wishing I could go and spend a few weeks visiting Cromwell Plantation!! Im spreading the word on this wonderful series and hope my friends check it out too!

  15. Hi,
I just saw a comment by you stating that you just bought a new set of drums. I looked but didn’t see the article about it. Im 75 years old and have been playing guitar and drums professionally for over 30 years. I also just bought a new set of drums. They are a Roland electronic set that I play in my (studio, better known as my basement) whenever I want and my son and husband cannot hear them. Any way, Id love to read your article about your set and what type of music you enjoy playing.
I will also tell you I have read all your Brendan books and Im looking forward to no. 19…or is it 20?
    Hope you are feeling better.

  16. I am currently about 2/3 through “Glimmers of Change”. I have devoured the first 6. You have completely pulled me in. The one thing that has broken my heart is that even in 2023 there is so much left to do. Recently it seems we are going backwards, people trying to take away rights of women and people of color that have been fought for since even before the Civil War. It makes reading the Bregdan series all the mire poignant.
